CUCINA HIGALA

In the heart of the City of Golden Friendship, along Capistrano and Mabini Streets, you’ll find this unique modern Filipino and heritage cuisine restaurant that serves delectable Northern Mindanaoan delicacies… this is Cucina Higala.

Good friends + Great Food is Cucina Higala’s tagline which also relates to the true meaning of the restaurant’s name. “Cucina” is a Spanish word for “kitchen” while “Higala” is a Bisayan word which means “friends or family”. So, good friends + great food at Cucina Higala will definitely yield to a happy and full tummy as well as happy and strengthened relationship with your friends and family.

Happy Father's Day, Mama!

Cucina Higala is owned by Mr. Jan Uy and Ms. Maggie Uy who are also the owners of Thai Me Up Restaurant at Centrio and the Monster Kitchen here in CDO.

I really love the ambience of the place. It is filled with unique and antique Filipino inspired decorations and memorabilia. The place is so spacious. The mural and paintings are also remarkable.

Now, let’s talk about the food. The food was all great and the service was fast and good. I really like the Binagoongan Pork Liempo (Lechon Kawali with sweet- spiced bagoong sauce, topped with green mango ensalada). Ahh, so good!

We also ordered Humba (Cagayan de Oro’s well-loved slow cooked pork belly with sweet soy-black bean sauce, banana blossoms, and hard cooked quail’s egg, with pickled onions and cherry tomatoes, and lastly topped with crumbled peanuts)

...and the Surol (Camiguin chicken stew with coconut milk, crisp ginger threads and fresh native oregano).

We also tried their famous drink, the Magic Potion which is made from Blue Ternate flower which is known to have health benefits. Aside from that, we also ordered the Pineapple Ginger drink. It was all so good! Take note that prices are exclusive of 10% service charge.

Final  verdict:
Honestly, the Humba and the Binagoongan Pork Liempo is a little bit pricey when we’ll base it on its serving, however, if we judge it by its taste, I think the price is justifiable.

Overall, I commend Cucina Higala for its high-class and vibrant setting which showcases Filipino (Northern Mindanao) riches, for its delectable cuisine, and lastly, for its commendable services. I will surely be back, Cucina Higala. I will...
